Tucson, Arizona, is the seat of Pima County. It is 60 miles from the border with Mexico and about 120 miles from Phoenix, Arizona. It ranked in 2009, as number 32 in size among all the cities in the United States. The University of Arizona is located in Tucson. The major industry in Tucson is related to optics and optoelectronics; due to this, Tucson is also nicknamed the "Optics Valley".
Tucson is home to many homey residential suburbs, the epitome of what is southwestern middle-class America. The most important of these are Marana, Sahuarita, Oro Valley and South Tucson. There are also quite a lot of small towns around the metropolitan area, for those willing to commute to avoid the more hectic pace of life in the city. Some of these are Catalina, Oracle, Benson and Green Valley. Due to its proximity to the border, Tucson is home to many Mexican immigrants.
Tucson is surrounded by mountains. Visible from every part of the city is the majestic view of the Santa Catalina Mountains, the Tucson Mountains, the Santa Rita Mountains and the Rincon Mountains. Also near the city are some important peaks, such as Mount Wrightson and Mount Lemmon. This makes Tucson a prime destination for mountain and rock climbers in general.
Real Estate sellers are curiously optimistic in Tucson. Continually we can see a big difference between the average listing and the average sales price. Strangely enough, the average listing price continues to go up while the median sales price keeps getting lower and lower. The median sales price is around $128,000 for homes in the city. Almost all variables except for the average li0sting price have been decreasing in the past couple of years. For the reseller, there are about 7,100 houses in some stage of foreclosure. The most popular neighborhoods inside the city are Rita Ranch and Sam Hughes.
