Despite efforts of the banks and federal government to cease the disaster on foreclosure home, frustrated borrowers still battle delays within their attempts in negotiating lower payments, while thousands lose their own homes per month.

Banks state that they are swamped full of inquiries and are only currently finishing the initial loan modifications on mortgage under the president’s administration’s plan of making homes affordable, a program that started in April which required borrowers to make renegotiated payments within three months prior to securing new terms on loan.

Although there are a lot of reasons, the problem remains simple: banks do not renegotiate sufficient loans for the rising foreclosure tide, either on their own accord or through federal programs. If banks really wanted things to work, things would work.
However, the banks continue with the urge for patience, in particular with federal plans. Many people had several expectations from this particular program who did not comprehend that it would take some time; however, the intention still remains and people move on.

A lot of banks began their own personal programs in mortgage modification, lowering payments by altering the rate of interest or how long the loan is, or, in several cases, forbearing a kind of principal before the plan of the administration was revealed. Two homeowners in San Jose who looked for help via their banks’ personal programs told various tales of endless red tape.

Before Obama’s plan was even announced, one homeowner from San Jose looked for elp within his bank and lowered his monthly payments during the month of January. He worked with his lender for around half a year, fulfilling various requests for a lot of documents; however, he was recently told to start from scratch. This must have been frustrating for him. Every time he makes a call, someone different picks up and it feels like his files are scattered everywhere.

On Saturday, he was informed by his bank that they would begin proceedings of foreclosure. However, on Tuesday, bank representatives told him that he might very well qualify for plan of the federal government in making homes affordable.
Another homeowner from San Jose was fired from her job as a semiconductor technician in January. Now, she works part-time. Her bank had assured her that she qualified for renegotiated loans last November and she was repeatedly asked for more documents, which she kept on supplying. In April, however, the bank suddenly stated that she needed to submit a brand new application. So, she paid two thousand dollars to a consultant from Southern California for help. However, it still didn’t work. The bank chose to foreclose and gave her only several months to leave the premises.

The Treasury Department that runs the president’s administration plan on making homes affordable refused to comment when it came to the criticism of banks, stating that it would release information within this month regarding how this program is actually doing. More than five hundred thousand loan modifications are currently in process, while more than two hundred and seventy thousand borrowers have been given offers of loan modifications via twenty-five loan servicers.
